Hello!

Hello and welcome to The Tattered Spine!  I am Parker Dawn, and I am happy to have you join me on my new blogging adventure!

I know.  There are already tons of really good book blogs out there.  And great writers, and smart tech guys that know exactly what they are doing and are not even a little bit intimidated by launching their own blog.  Not so much me.  I struggle with technology, so this will be an interesting challenge.  And do I even have time for a book blog????   Heck no!  I mean, there is so much involved.  The extra reading, the extra writing, the maintenance of the blog itself.  Not to mention all the research I did before I even chose a blog title.  But here’s the thing.  I LOVE TO READ.  It is seldom, if ever, that I do not have at least one paperback tucked into my bag. I love the feel of a book in my hand, and I receive joy from a well-written word.  Sometimes I marvel at a particular piece of genius; it is easy for me to fall in love with a character or rage in the face of another’s stupidity.  If the story is well-written, I can sink into it whole heart and soul.  I like to talk about books with other people.  My daughter and I sometimes read together, taking turns picking titles, sending them back and forth thru the mail.  “Where are you?” “What page are you on?” “Oh my gosh did you read this sentence?!?!”  But being a new nurse and full-time mother leaves her little time for leisure so right now I am the only one reading and discussing.  Which makes it a little one-sided when it comes to talking about a plot.

So, The Tattered Spine was born.  A platform where I can share with others my love of all thing’s booky.  Be warned, you will find my reviews mostly based on great library finds… I am a huge supporter of local libraries and I visit them often.  As I am just a working-class gal, I scour yard sales, thrift shops and library sales for cheap reads whenever I can.  That does not mean I exclude new releases; I am just a little more choosey due to my pocketbook and the lack of dollars therein.  Good thing then, that I read just about anything.  Mysteries, thrillers, classics, romance.  Even YA: yes, you will find me reviewing all of that, and more.  The only thing I shy away from are memoirs, but even those are not off the table if something intriguing comes to my attention.

I should talk about some technical stuff.  My writing style varies a bit; depending on the material, I may echo the voice of the work I am sharing.   I do not give stars (even though I depend on them when I order books on-line.)  My reviews will always be honest and of my own opinion, but I believe in positivity so you can assume if I am reviewing a work then it is well worth reading. The reviews themselves may look different one from another; as I am new to this whole blogging thing, I may eventually settle on a particular style… or not.  You can expect at least one review a month, with dabs of other stuff added in here and there.  I am looking forward to spotlighting certain authors (because there are SO many good writers out there!).  I will also touch base with different genres, books-to-movies……. maybe music?  Hmmm.  A little farfetched but it could happen. Regardless, whatever my little blog comes to, I am open to the adventure!

I hope you enjoy what you find here. What you read, and what you share with me!   I look forward to your feedback and sharing this voyage with you!!!!

So, until my next blog…. Take care!

-Parker Dawn.

  1. Hello Parker! This is my first time I have subscribed to a blog and I am so happy to find yours! I love your review of Waterfall. I have not read this book yet. I typically don’t care to read books with this subject matter but your review makes it seem like a very thought provoking story. The words you use to describe the story are so eloquent. You must be an author yourself! I just may deviate from my “typical” read and check out Waterfall. I am looking forward to watching your blog and reading more reviews.

    1. Oops! If you are confused obviously I am too about the name of the book. I posted Waterfall as the book title instead of Rainwater. Sorry……

      1. No worries! I do hope you pick up a copy of this gorgeous little story. I hope you love it as much I did! And Thank you for visiting The Tattered Spine! I enjoyed hearing from you.
